Eagles lose season opener to Rapid City Central

After a tight first half, Rapid City Central changed defenses in the second half and cruised to a thirteen point win in the season opener for both teams, 43-30. The Eagles led early on two baskets each by seniors Jaime Rice and Rebecca Goodman, and led 9-7 after the first quarter. The second quarter was evenly played, with the Eagles leading 17-15 at the half. Katie Norman had six at the half to lead the Eagles. The second half showed a new defense by the Cobblers, switching from man to zone defenses in an attempt to take advantage of the Cobbler's considerable size advantage and to counteract the Eagles quickness advantage. The adjustment was successful as Rapid City opened up the third quarter with a 13-3 run and the Eagles never seriously challenged after that point. Seniors Amber Abrams and Darcy Reinicke led the Cobblers in scoring with 13 and 15 points resectively. Next action for the Eagles is Friday night when they host perennial powerhouse Yankton at the Civic Arena.
