Lady Govs pull away from Eagles

The Pierre Lady Governors solved Aberdeen Central's stingy defense in the third quarter and pulled away from the Golden Eagles to improve to 2-0 on the year with a 44-31 win in the Pierre gym Saturday night. After being held to 16 points in the first half, the Govs picked apart Central's defense to shoot 69 percent from the field in the third quarter with junior Melissa Leurs leading the way with 10 of her game high 17 points. That effort stretched a one point halftime lead to nine after three and that was stretched to twelve early in the fourth quarter on Karen Unkenholz's three pointer to begin scoring in the fourth. For the third game in a row the Eagles had a difficult time scoring. In their three games this year the Eagles have scored 30, 36, and 31 points and fall to 1-2 on the year. Next action for Aberdeen Central is Friday night when they host the Mitchell Kernels.
