



Golden Eagles fall to Roosevelt
Aberdeen Central played right with top ranked Sioux Falls Roosevelt for three and
half quarters, but the Roughriders eventually pulled away in the final 5 minutes
of the game in the opening round of the State AA Tournment Thursday night in the
Sioux Falls Arena. Junior center Tonia Burgard made two freethrows with two minutes left in the
third quarter to pull the Eagles within two points at 35-33. Burgard played a big
role in keeping the Golden Eagles close in the second half, scoring 11 of her 13
points after halftime. Roosevelt responded to the third quarter challenge with two sophomores
leading the way. Mandy Kappel, who led Roosevelt with 20 points, scored 7 points
in a three minute stretch midway through the final quarter, and Krista Orsack made
a basket and 5 freethrows to ice the win. Central never led in the game, but a basket
by Dawn Sillman at the end of the first quarter resulted in a tied game. The senior
guard led the Eagles with 20 points, including 4 three pointers. The Eagles play
another Sioux Falls school, Washington, Friday afternoon.
