Golden Eagles defense dominating in District 3AA opener

The Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles opened up the 1997 post-season with an unbelievable defensive performance against the Mitchell Kernels. The Golden Eagles, trailing 20-18 at the half, did not allow a point in the third quarter, and a desperation 3 pointer late in the fourth quarter accounted for the Kernel's only points of the second half. The Eagles cruised to a 43-23 win. The Eagles concentrated on keeping the ball away from Kernel's center Randi Morgan, who scored 20 points in the previous meeting between the two teams, a 47-38 Kernal victory. Emily Graf, assisted by great helpside defense from the rest of the team, handled the job well as the Eagles continually tipped passes away or made steals. Morgan finished the game with 4 points. The Eagles offensive attack was led by senior Dawn Sillman with 14 points and senior Emily Graf with 10. The Golden Eagles advance to the second round of District 3AA play when they travel to Pierre to take on the Lady Govs on Friday night.
