Golden Eagles run past Gazelles


The Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles wrapped up a fantastic season by defeating the Gazelles 56-44 at the Arena on Friday night. The Eagles again used full court pressure defense to jump out early on the Gazelles, leading 15-9 at the quarter and 32-15 at halftime. In the first half, the Eagles were able to get three 5 second violations on the Gazelles after made baskets, and many turnovers that led to transition baskets for Aberdeen. In the second half, the Eagles maintained their lead against the Gazelles by using big baskets at key times by all of the players. 7 of the 8 players scored for the Golden Eagles. With the win, the Eagles finish the year at 14-2. The only two losses came early in the year at Huron and at Yankton, both of whom the Eagles beat the second time. The Golden Eagles lost on September 6, then ran off 11 straight wins to end the season. Coach Smedshammer was quoted as saying "I don't think I've ever had a team take their game to the next level like this one did after that loss in Huron. It was an incredible run!"
