Eagles beat Bobcats on buzzer - beater

After stuggling early, the Golden Eagles found their rythem in the second half and won a hard fought battle over the Broolings Bobcats Thursday night. A combination of cold Aberdeen shooting and an aggressive transition game by the Bobcats led to a 5 point halftime deficit for the Eagles at 22-17. Shooting turned around in the second half, though, and the Eagles led 30-26 after three quarters. Brookings came back strong in the fourth quarter, however, and tied the game at 38 with under a minute to play. Brookings fouled with 25 seconds to go, but the Eagles could not convert from the freethrow line, giving the Bobcats an opportunity to win the game. The Eagles came up with a great defensive stance on the possetion, stealing the ball with under 10 seconds left. Jaime Rice penetrated hard to the basket and was able to dish the ball to Steph Rath on the right wing, who was able to get a shot up right before the buzzer. Players, fans, and coaches all watched with anticipation as the ball swished through the net giving the Eagles an exciting 40-38 victory. The Eagles improve to 2-0 in the ESD and 2-0 overall with the win with a very difficult stretch ahead of them. The Eagles play their next 6 games away from the Arena.
