Yanton slips past Central
Although the Golden Eagles led for most of the game, it was Yankton who came up with victory at the Arena Friday night. Yankton, ranked second in this week's AA poll, lead 6-5 early in the first quarter, and did not lead again until Elycia Schoenfelder's baseline basket put the Gazelles up 43-41 with 55 seconds left in the game. Central used its tough pressure defense to build leads of 12 points on two different occasions, and also lead by eight with two minutes left in the third quarter. Yankton took a 44-41 lead on a Shari Johnson freethrow with 20 seconds remaining. Aberdeen Central ran a set play for Dawn Sillman but the potentially game tying 3 - pointer hit the back of the rim and bounced away. Sillman led the Eagles with 17 points, despite missing two days of practice this week with a sprained ankle, and Jen Murphy added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Central hosts Huron in another ESD contest tonight at the Arena at 7:30.
