Eagles clinch top spot in District 3AA
The Golden Eagles went 2-0 for the weekend and in so doing, clinched the top spot in the District 3AA standings and home court advantage throughout the District 3AA tournament in two weeks. The Eagles held off a scrappy Pierre team 52-45 at Riggs High gym Saturday night for their 10th win of the season. Central swept the season series from Pierre and will likely face the Govs again in the first round of the district tourney. Dawn Sillman led the Eagles effort with 14 points and six rebounds. Katie Norman and Jen Murphy each added 12 points for the Golden Eagles. The Eagles led throughout the game, although Pierre ws always close. After 3 quarters, Central held only a one point lead, thanks to a buzzer beating shot from the baseline by Sillman. Central then hit some key freethrows down the stretch to keep Pierre at bay and finally pulled away to the seven point road win. The Eagles improve to 10-5 on the season, 8-4 in the ESD. The Golden Eagles will host Watertown at the Arena on Thursday, their last home game, then end their regular season on the road at #2 ranked Yankton on Friday.
