Eagles win District 3AA - Advance to State AA Tourney

The Golden Eagles got a chance to cut down the nets and celebrate their victory over Mitchell in earning their first trip to the state tournament since 1992. The Eagles got off to a hot start, leading 8-0 thanks in part to 3 pointers by Dawn Sillman and Katie Norman. Mitchell just kept chipping away until Central, who held only a one point lead after 3 quarters, stepped up their game in the final period to make their trip to the state tourney a sure thing. Senior Jen Murphy led the 4th quarter charge, scoring nine points and blocking 2 shots by opposing center Randi Morgan. The Eagles slowly pulled away, leading by seven points with around a minute to go. Two 3 pointers by Jill Theeler kept the Mitchell chances alive, but free throws and solid ball handling kept the Eagles on top. The Eagles, in winning the title, are assured one of the top 4 seeds for the state tournament on November 21 - 23 in Huron. Their opponent is yet to be determined, however a likely matchup will have Central playing the Watertown Arrows.
