Kernels slip past Eagles
In what many people project as the preview to the District 3AA Championship, the Mitchell Kernels defeated the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles in a hard fought ESD game at the Mitchell gym. Randi Morgan's short bank shot with seven seconds left in the game gave the Kernels a 53-51 win over Central. The Eagles jumped out to an early 11-2 lead thanks to some hot shooting by junior Dawn Sillman and senior Jen Murphy and led 31 - 25 at the half. Central held five point leads four different times in the fourth quarter, the last one on a fast break layup by Murphy with just over three minutes remaining, making it a 49-44 game. 6'1" freshman Randi Morgan and sophomore guard Sarah Hoffman led the Kernels with 20 points each. The Eagles next action is Saturday, September 28 when they host Grand Forks Red River at the Barnett Center.
