Golden Eagles finish year strong

In the last game of the year for the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagles girls basketball team, the Eagles finally broke free of their tounament troubles on Saturday. The Eagles started hot and never cooled off in rolling past the Huron Tigers 54-36. The win put a positive spin on what had been a frustrating weekend for Aberdeen. Sparked by the perimeter shooting of junior Dawn Sillman and sophomore Katie Norman, Central jumped out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter. Sillman and Norman both hit a three pointer and a long two, and Sara Healy also hit a 3 pointer and Emily Graf converted on a three point play. The Eagles continued to build their lead, at one time owning a 28-12 lead. Central led 39-25 after three and cruised to the 18 point win. The Golden Eagles, who were making their first state tournament appearance since 1992, finish the season at 14-8. With 4 returning starters and numerous bench players returning, the Golden Eagles are optomistic about their chances to return to the State AA Tournament next season as well and improve on this year's finish.
