Eagles open season with 51 - 48 win

The Aberdeen Central girls used tough full court pressure all game long to defeat the Brandon Valley Lynx in Central's 58-41 season opening win Friday night at the Civic Arena. The Eagles pressure allowed them to jump out to leads of 14-4 at the end of the first quarter and 20-6 early in the second quarter before leading by ten, 26-16 at the half. Brandon Valley made a nice run in the third quarter at the Golden Eagles, however, scoring 13 of 15 points to take their first lead of the night at 32-30. The Lynx managed to open up a 4 point lead at 36-32, but the Eagles regained their composure to take a lead they would not relinquish when two freethrows by Jennifer Murphy at 3:36 gave the Eagles a 43-41 lead. Key freethrows down the stretch by Katie Norman, Laura Graf, and Dawn Sillman stretched the lead back to five before a final layup by Brandon Valley at the buzzer made the final score 53-48. Jen Murphy led the Golden Eagles with 20 points. Trish Poppen led the Lynx with 14.
