Georges Leekens has announced his final selection of 22 players for the World Cup.
3 players had to drop out of the pre-selection, to get to this final selection.
And there were some surprises :
The first player who had to leave the selection is Gert Claessens.
This was not really a surprise for the midfielder of Club Brugge.
He had only played several minutes in the matches against France and England.
A second player who drops out of the selection is Michael Goossens.
He started in the match against England, but didn't really play very well due to a small injurie.
His substitute in that match, Mbo Mpenza did pretty well.
And perhaps another factor to choose for Mbo Mpenza instead of Goossens,
might have been the fact that his younger brother Emile (Lokonda) Mpenza is also in the selection.
The third player who is not in the selection of 22 is Philippe Leonard.
The player of Monaco was not injured as mentioned earlier.
But he played a bad match against France, and Leekens has given the advantage to Borkelmans as left-back.
The most important players that are not in this final selection are :
Claessens, Goossens, Leonard, Walem, Karagiannis, De Bilde, De Roover, De Brul and Gaspercic.
There are 6 players of champion Club Brugge in this selection.
For Van der Elst and Scifo, it will be the 4th World Cup in their carreer !!
