Match Report

Belgium_England Belgium played another nice match in preparation for the World Cup, which starts in 2 weeks. Leekens started with a totally different team compared to the match against France : 11 new players at the beginning of the match ! Leekens said that he didn't want the players to be allready tired before they start the World Cup. The "second" team of Belgium didn't play a bad match at all. (Leekens doesn't want to hear that : he sais both teams are equal). They disturbed the English team very early while they were trying to set up an attack, which resulted in almost no English chance at all before half-time. Belgium did have some nice chances : a few shots on goal of Enzo Scifo, and a very actif Emile Mpenza up front who created some nice chances for himself, but was unable to score. Mpenza got past defender Campbell, but keeper Martyn was able to stop the shot.

During the second half-time, the English squad did have a few nice chances, with some new players in the team. Keeper Van de Walle needed a good reaction on a shot of Le Saux after a beautiful action, and the shot of Merson was dangerous too. In the final stage of the match, Belgium was able to create some more chances : a beautiful shot of Enzo Scifo was stopped by the English keeper, and another shot of Emile Mpenza, who was the man of the match. Belgium was the best team in the penalties following the match : Scifo missed his penalty for Belgium, but Van de Walle stopped 2 penalties of England. Result : 4-3.

Belgium played another good match on this tournament in Morocco against 2 of the topteams of upcoming World Cup The team for this match was totally different, but as in the previous match against France, Belgium was unable to score any goals.
