Orlando "Tubby" Smith

Coach Tubby Smith's background and record

Tubby Smith was chosen to succeed Rick Pitino as Kentucky's basketball coach after Pitino left UK to become the head coach of the Boston Celtics. Previously, he was Georgia's head coach with a two-year record of 45-19 with two NCAA tournament appearances. Before that, he coached Tulsa to 79-43 four-year record with two consecutive Missouri Valley Conference regular season championships, two NCAA "Sweet Sixteen" appearances, one MVC title, and twice was named MVC Coach of the Year, all in 1994 & '95. Earlier, he was an assistant coach under Rick Pitino at Kentucky (1989-91), George Felton at South Carolina (1986-89), and J.D. Barnett at Virginia Commonwealth. Outside of his coaching duties, he and his wife Donna have four sons.
