Rick Pitino came to Kentucky as the head coach in 1989 after coaching the New York Knicks to a 52-44 record in 1988-89. Previously, he coached Providence to the NCAA Final Four in 1987. Earlier, he was an assistant coach with the Knicks, after serving as head coach for Boston University. Before that, he was an assistant at Syracuse under Jim Boeheim, after his first coaching job at Hawaii. He has a 352-124 overall win/loss record which includes a 219-50 record at Kentucky. This record includes one NCAA national championship, three Final Four appearances: two at Kentucky, one at Providence, five Elite Eight appearances, seven NCAA tournament appearances, most of which came at Kentucky. He has been in coaching for fifteen years and is in his eighth year at Kentucky. Outside of his coaching duties, he and his wife Joanne have five children. The Cats are currently crushing their opponents on the way to their second NCAA national championship (hopefully) under coach Pitino. Rick Pitino has signed a mega-million dollar contract to coach the Boston Celtics.
