Tournament Games

  1. Hayward(Kawalas) 2-1
  2. Fremont(Arsenal) 3-1
  3. Amnadel(Shooting Stars) 2-0
  4. Almaden Valley(Eclipse) 4-2

High and low lights of the games.

Hayward.

  1. Bad weather, windy and cold.
  2. Jennifer scored first.
  3. Hayward scored next.
  4. Field had a very muddy spots, broken water lines I think.
  5. Lyndsay would use the mud like a sheild against the defenders.
  6. Vanessa scored to put us ahead.
  7. Hayward put on a hard press at the end of the game.
  8. Pete lost it with the girls, yelling so much he lost his voice.
  9. Shelley was called for a delay of game, but the girls blocked the free kick
  10. The defense let down at the end of game.
  11. But despite everything, the Stars won.
  12. Hayward really hussled and almost caugth us at the end of the game.

Fremont

  1. Wheather was better.
  2. Rebecca Eustace scored first.
  3. Then Jennifer Eustace scored.
  4. Fremont was big, mostly U16 players, the girls had fight not to get pushed around.
  5. Fremonts defenders were good but slow, the twins beat them on lots of fast breaks.
  6. One of Fremonts defenders came up and scored just after second half.
  7. Crystal got a fast break, beat Fremont and scored.
  8. Score was now 3-1.
  9. Jennifer Bell was put in with 8 minutes left cause Katie was getting tried.
  10. Shelley and Jennifer got tangled up with a Fremont player and Jennifer went down.
  11. Jennifer broke her leg.
  12. We called the ambulance and took Jennifer to the hospital.
  13. Game went on, Vanessa was pumped.
  14. After the injury it was hard for ether team to play, lucky it was over soon.
  15. Fremont players and coaches where very concerned about Jennifer.
  16. It was just an accident!

Amnadel

  1. It was a nice Sunday morning, not to warm, not to windy.
  2. The Stars were very excited about playing Amndel, since they beat us 3-1 last time we played.
  3. Jennifer Eustace scored first.
  4. The referee was a little goofy, kept missing plays and then giving drop balls.
  5. Kristy Silve was kicked in the ankle, opened up a nasty cut, but she wrapped it and played on.
  6. Rebecca Eustace caught the goalie coming out and scored the second goal.
  7. That was enought to win 2-0.

Almaden Valley

  1. It actually got warm for the last game.
  2. This was the 3rd time we played Almaden this season.
  3. Almaden came out ready to play and very intense.
  4. As usual, Lyndsay took a beating, but she loves playing Almaden.
  5. Jennifer scored first on a penalty kick when Almaden was called for a hand ball in the box.
  6. Then Rebecca scored the second goal to put us up 2-0.
  7. Almaden had very fast stikers and defense.
  8. Almaden scored just before the half to make it 2-1.
  9. One of the girls on the Almaden team had a 40 yeard throw in, better than a corner kick.
  10. Her throw in was causing us trouble all day.
  11. Five minutes into the 2nd half Shelley took a free kick from mid field and put it in.
  12. It was low and had spin on it, caught the goalie off graud and went in the goal(3-1).
  13. Almaden came back, a big throw into the box, bounced off a couple of players and in.
  14. It was now 3-2.
  15. Then Vanessa went in and caught the defense off graud and put one in.
  16. It was a nice goal, top right hand corner of the net.
  17. The Stars won 4-2, Almaden played very tough as always.

Summary

  1. I rate this a "B-" tournament
  2. Except for the fields it was a "A" tournament.
  3. But the fields were that bad.
  4. Fields bad, very bad, maybe a 5 out of 10. Worst I've seen in my 12 years of coaching.
  5. Referees, 9 out of 10
  6. Tournament coordination a 10, very well organized tournament.
  7. Quality of teams where very good.
  8. Nice having a hospital only 2 blocks away. To bad I needed it.
  9. Jenifer is in a cast from her thigh to ankle, will miss her high school season.
  10. But she'll be back next spring.
  11. Players of the tournament.
    1. JENNIFER BELL, what can you say, she always plays with all her heart!
    2. Vanessa Molina, always gets a goal when we need it the most.
    3. Crystal, best tournament since Agust 10th in Novato.
    4. The twins, combined for 6 goals.
    5. The twins have become the strikers I dreamed they could be.
    6. Erin and Kelly, Kelly and Erin, with them on defense, gives everyone else time!
    7. Shelley, might be our most improved player.
    8. All the Stars, they've worked so hard and have really come together.
  12. Now all the girls will go play high school.
  13. Then we'll get together again for Association Cup(March-15-1997).....
