The Castro Valley First Look Invitational

The first game of the tournament was on Saturday 10:30. The Stars dominated the game. We had about 25 shots to 1 by Walnut Creek. Rebecca Eustace got the first goal to put the Stars up 1-0. After that Walnut Creek scored on there only shoot, a nice cross that was deflected into the goal. The Stars where dominating but corss after cross kept going in front of the goal but nobody was ther to put it in. At last Ashley Smith was on the back side of the goal when a cross came and trapped and shot. The Stars where up 2-1 and that was enough to win the game.

The second game of the tournament was Saturday 3:00 against the Castro Valley Express. Castro Valley was very big and very physical. They took out 4 of my players in the first 10 minutes. The referees didn't do anything. My team, being pure under 15, wasn't use to being beat up like this. As the game went on, we just couldn't get anything going. Half ended 0-0. Castro Valley scored about 5 minutes into the second half. Then just hung on for the rest of the game. I didn't think the stars played a very good game.

The third game was Sunday morning at 10:30am. We played Momentum from Danville. We dominated the game. But just couldn't score. In the second half we had the ball in front of their net 25 out of thirty minutes. But couldn't put it in. Then with us pushing very hard, Momentum caught us on a fast break and shot the ball right through the goalies legs. They caught the defense pushing so far up that it ended up being a 3 on 1 break. Three of their fast forwards on our sweeper. Momentum went on to win 3-1. My hat is off to them. They always find a way to win.

That was the end of the tournament for us.

Summary

  1. I rate this a "C+" tournament
  2. Fields, 7.5, bee nest all over the place, kids getting stung during the games.
  3. The fields had a bad slope to them, when you went down hill, the ball ran away from the kids.
  4. Referees, 5, didn't call anything except out of bounds.
  5. Referees let play get so rough that it was dangerous for the kids.
  6. Tournament coordination a 10, very good
  7. Quality of teams ok, Danville was the best.
  8. On to Santa Rosa next weekend.
