Coors Field
After calling Mile High Stadium home for the first two years of the club's
existence, the Rockies move into Coors Field for the 1995 season.
The new park is an "old style" ballpark in the mold of Baltimore's Camden
Yards and Cleveland's Jacobs Field. Built in the historic site of the old
Denver Union Railroad Depot in lower downtown Denver, Coors Field is a
brick and steel structure with intimate seating, natural grass and a view
of the Rocky Mountains beyond the outfield. A Fenway-style manually operated
scoreboard will adorn the wall in right field. The stadium will seat 43,800
fans, including at least 55 luxury boxes and 5,000 club seats. The total
cost of the Rockies new home will be approximately $140 million.
In its two years of operation, Mile High Stadium had one of the highest
home run rates, mostly due to Denver's high altitude. While no one knows
exactly how Coors Field will behave, it would be surprising if the park
is not friendly to the long ball.
