I am going to start this off by saying that Pro Wrestling is still in a good state today. There are a lot of people in this sport that can carry it on well into the next century. I am talking about people such as Chris Benoit, Rob Van Damme and even as much as I hate to say it Shawn Micheals. I am sure that there are people out there who watched wrestling in the days of the Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan and the many greats before them. These people can see that there is something missing from wrestling today compared to what it was even 6 or 7 years ago.
I remember watching my first Wrestling Match, and I was only 8 or 9. It was Stampede Wrestling, and the "entertainment" that exists today wasn't there. These wrestlers were fighting, and it actually looked like fighting. There were no fireworks going off and no one was dancing around like an idiot. If the wrestler had a theme song, you would never hear them calling themselves the "Boy Toy". The crowd was so into it that there was too many cops in attendance to count.
Think back to the year 1990 at Wrestlmania 6. One of the most classic wrestling matches ever I think. It was the champ Hulk Hogan taking on the IC champ The Ultimate Warrior. For 25 minutes, these two fought and made it look real good. The momentum would sway gradually, not like you see today where one guy gets in a punch or a chin kick and the other guy is on the ground. That match ended with the Ultimate Warrior winning the title from Hulk. People in the audience were screaming in the stands with approval, and Hulkster on his way out saluted The Warrior in such a way that the crowd lit up again, even louder this time.
In Wrestling today, you see such people as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. He really is not that good of a wrestler, but since he uses so much profanity, the fans seem to like him. I will stand up right now and tell you all that I think Steve Austin will slide away into a nothing in the WWF. He really has no talent, and his gimmick will wear off with time. I mean, how many times can you hear a guy say "kiss my @SS, and not get tired of it? We need people like Vince Mcmahon and Eric Bischoff to turn wrestling back to the way it was a few years ago- where people cheered for hero's and booed the Villans. Today it seems like it is the other way around. Make sure you read my next article on who is winning the war between WWF and WCW.
