Barnet March Details

Here is a copy of an email I received from Mike Edwards of the KBA, regarding the Fans United-style march on April 2:

The march is a Fans United event, open to all football fans of any leagues. It takes place on Sunday April 2nd 2000. Meet at Whitehall Place, London. The march actually begins at 12 noon so be there about half hour before. In conjunction with Brighton and Hove Albion supporters, Barnet supporters  have organised this event.

We have been made aware that the football league has the power to expel clubs with no recourse for a general meeting if those club go into receivership or administration. For non-league fans this may seem  irrelevant. However, we have received written conformation of a proposed downsizing of the Premier League. They are aiming to secure two vacant spots in the football league for the two extra teams being demoted from the Premier league. This will have a major knock on effect for non-league sides. We undersatnd that plans are in place for a second Premier League to be formed which will mean the 'removal' of a further 8 teams from the league. We are fairly confident that the door into the 3rd division could be shut  forever.

Barnet, Brighton, Leicester, Blackpool, Cambridge, Luton, Chester, Wycombe, Swindon and  Palace all face serious problems. The governing body - The Football League is meant to suport it's constituent members. instead it punishes them or has behind the scenes plans to expel them. Non-league is in a similar mess with Enfield being an obvious problem.

For any changes to be made to our game, at all levels, we have to act. This Labour Government has failed us and now we must stand up in unity, whatever level to ensure a fair and just pyramid system for all. Teams should rise and fall by their activity on the pitch. Political problems should be sorted and the football bodies should actively help the clubs who make up their numbers - not punish them. There is big money in football now and money is greed. Football is now being governed by Chairman desperate to suck every penny just to survive - this is wrong and the governing bodies are responsible.

Together we can change the future, together we can fight for a sensible future for our game before it spirals into a British and Euro League where our teams become mere nursery outfits for the fat cat teams.

Please come down and be counted. We have worked hard to organise this foryou. We have given you a platform to vent your anger - use it. There will be massive media prescence. Don't waste this opportunity, it could change things for the better.
