Dear SirI have not enough time now, to spend what little I have, surfing the Net; accordingly you are correct! I have not been awarded an anorak?
On a more serious note, the offending article on the net came to my attention following an investigation into two very serious incidents of bullying.
I was very saddened to read on your site that the author of the racist material is just a teenager. I like you, are concerned that, sinister forces may be at work, and that this youngster has been influenced by same?
As this is not an isolated episode, indeed even the Club itself has been responsible for the publication of misinformation regarding Gypsies? Just one example being “Gypsies vandalising the practise ground at Sandford” this was the Clubs reason for their inability to use same, however the local authorities alleged that the Clubs’ inability to pay was in fact the actual reason? Accordingly it is not surprising when Gypsies have been the oft quoted reason by United and its various owners for various of their problems? It is not surprising that given this institutionalised racism that a young mind has become so distorted!
Indeed as the Irish Travellers were, “invited” to occupy the stadium, my crystal ball told me, here we go again Gypsies would be blamed for the delay in Taylor Woodrows return? You should also note that at no time did the Council or the Club or even Taylor Woodrow take any action whatsoever to remove the Travellers from the site? Therefore I did, or they would be there to this day? Affording an excuse for even more delays, at the expense of the Gypsies?
For the avoidance of any confusion Irish Travellers and Gypsies are as similar as United and Swindon Fans are!
Despite this fact, I have spent the last five years trying to persuade the County Council to provide transit sites with proper sanitation and services for all Travellers alike, only to be told over and over again by the County that they have no land or money
for same? Obviously I did not make my determination lightly to evict these Travellers from the stadium site, however as my own community had taken enough abuse already with regard this project, I was not prepared to let my community take even more.As for the Travellers I did find them alternative sites with services, before my legal advisors meetings with theirs, for their legal removal from the Stadium at Minchery Farm.
Kind Regards
Les Wells
