RESULT | 4 - 3 to those Robins from North Wales. The third successive match we've lost to damned Robins. |
TEAM |
Ricketts, Jarman, Richardson, McGowan Tait, Whitehead, Murphy Beauchamp, Cook Lilley |
SUBS | Omoyinmi (for Murphy, h/t)
Robertson (for Ricketts, 68) Anthrobus (for Cook, 80) Brooks, Glass (not used) |
GOALS | 1 - 0 TAIT (7) - Headed in a good
cross from Lee Jarman.
1 - 1 Ferguson (26) - Free kick, taken before the referee had blown his whistle, caught out the Oxford defence. 1 - 2 McGregor (70) - Ferguson's free-kick found the head of the unmarked McGregor. 1 - 3 Chalk (81) - Cue Strauss. Faulconbridge waltzed through the defence, setting up Chalk for a simple tap-in. 1 - 0 BEAUCHAMP (86) - Powerful long-range shot beat the advanced keeper and went in via the bar. Great goal. 1 - 3 Edwards (89) - Jarman made a right mess of a through-ball, allowing Edwards to get free and score. 1 - 0 OWN GOAL [McGregor] (90) - Tried to help us out by knocking in a cross from Anthrobus. |
PERFORMANCE | We actually strung together a few attacks, but too many long balls aimed at Lilley. Defence non-existent. |
MAN OF MATCH | Derek LILLEY - Showed effort, skill and passion (too much at times) as he ran himself ragged up front. |
BOOKINGS | Derek LILLEY (38) - Dissent. Kicked the ball away after being called up for a blatant foul. |
ATTENDANCE | 3,884 - No big away crowd to boost the flagging home attendances. |
REFEREE | David R Crick (Worcester Park, Surrey) - Made quite a few strange decisions... |

Us still bottom
Goals from Paul Tait, Joey Beauchamp and a Mark McGregor own goal were
not enough to prevent Oxford going down to a 4-3 defeat against Wrexham.
Oxford were without Guy Whittingham as he returned to Portsmouth in
an assistant manger capacity so young striker Jamie Cook retuirned to the
starting line-up.
Wrexham were without Lee Roche who missed out after his trip to Finland
with the England under-21's.
Wrexham had come closest to scoring when Hector Sam saw his effort
come back off the woodwork but Paul Tait headed the U's into an early lead
when he beat Robin's 'keeper Kevin Dearden to a ball in the air and saw
his effort loop into the net from 12 yards out.
Wrexham got themselves back in it when Darren Ferguson got on the end
of Dearden's long goal-kick to tie the scores at half time.
A slow second half burst into life when Mark McGregor put the Robins
in front and Martyn Chalk, ten minutes from time extended the lead.
The U's refused to lie down and pulled one back though Joey Beauchamp's
superb long range effort only to see Wrexham restor their two goal advantage
through Carlos Edwards.
Mark McGregor put through his own net to set up an exciting conclusion
but it was too late as the U's woeful defending condemned them to their
10th defeat in 12 matches.
Wrexham's joy was tempered by the loss of Stephen Roberts who sustained
a suspected broken leg.
