Advantage U's
Oxford bridged a one division gap to record a 1- 0 Worthington Cup first round, first leg advantage at Wolves through Matt Murphy.
The U's belied their Second Division status to take a slim advantage back to the Manor Ground.
Despite dominating, Colin Lee's men could find no way past U's keeper Richard Knight who was in inspired form to deny Ketsbaia, Bazeley, Lescott and Carl Robinson, while new £1.6m signing Robert Taylor came within inches of opening his account when his header came back off the woodwork.
John Robertson and Paul Powell failed to hit the target for Oxford early on before Matt Murphy tapped in the rebound after Steve Anthrobus' header had struck the post on 37 minutes. Murphy struck to record his first goal of the season and The U's first win of the campaign.
Paul Tait spurned the opportunity to add to Oxford's lead when he could only direct his header onto the woodwork.
