FOCUS: Anticipation : Teaches Goalie Not To Make First Move. (1/2 Ice)
SECONDARY:
Reaction time and breakaways.
INTRODUCTION:
A simple fast moving drill that should keep a large group busy. Basically you start with 3 players with pucks, between themselves they decide which player is the shooter. The 3 players skate single file(follow the leader) toward the goalie, each faking a shot except the one chosen as the shooter who shoots. The shooter can be the first, second or third player.
The goalie learns to react only to the shooter. Goalies reaction time should sharpen if the drill is used on a regular basis.
NOTE: If the goalie is weak on breakaways he will get burned on this drill.
SETUP:
As per the diagram line players up on both sides of the rink each with pucks. Each side should have groups of 3 players that will stay together (try to keep your forward lines as a group). The players will delegate each rush which player will shoot.
METHOD:
The players skate single file each with a puck in a follow the leader fashion. In the diagram blue was the leader, followed lime (who took the shot), and then pink. Remember.. only one of the 3 actually shoot, the other two stickhandle right up to the goalie and fake a shot.
Let the leader be innovative by allowing him freedom to zig-zag, skate along the boards, go around the net, whatever he wants to do.
Make sure all players in the group get a chance to shoot.
EXTRA GOALIE
HAVE NOTHING TO DO? Get him involved within a group!
