COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 5) - 1996 Olympians Josh Lakatos, Pasadena, Calif., and Lance Bade, Ridgefield, Wash. won the gold and bronze medals in men's trap at the 1996 Lonato World Cup, Lonato, Italy.

Lakatos went into the final tied with Bade an only a one point lead over Karsten Bindrich of Germany. After 25 targets, Lakatos only dropped one to finish first with a score of 145 out 150 possible targets and the gold medal. Bade and Bindrich were still tied after the 25-shot final. In a sudden death shoot-off, Bade dropped the first target winning the bronze. Bindrich won the silver medal.

In men's skeet, Jan Hensikt of Germany won the gold with 150/150 a perfect score and a new world record. Close behind in second was teammate Axel Wegner with a score of 148/150 for the silver. The bronze went to Italy's Falco Ennio with a score of 147/150.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Sixteen-year-old Kim Rhode (El Monte, Calif.) continued to build towards the Atlanta Olympic Games with a decisive win in women's double trap at the 1996 UIT Lonato (Italy) World Cup, Jun. 7.

Rhode, a high school junior at Arroya High School, shattered 106 out of 120 targets in the preliminary round. She broke 36/40 in the final for an overall score of 142 and the gold medal. Her teammates, Terry DeWitt, 32, (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Ellie Schad, 25, (North Platte, Neb.), finished tied at 98/120 in ninth place. Rhode and DeWitt qualified for the 1996 U.S. Olympic Shooting Team at the Olympic Trials in April.

"Our women shot really well for the first two rounds, but Terry and Ellie had to really reach for some extra effort in shooting their last rounds," said National Shotgun Coach Lloyd Woodhouse. "Kim shot well for all three rounds plus the final."

In men's double trap, Olympic alternate John Oppio, 23, (Sparks, Nev.) posted the highest U.S. score with 135/150 in the preliminaries and 46/50 in the final for fifth place. `96 Olympian Lance Bade, 25, (Ridgefield, Wash.) was 11th with 131. His Olympic teammate, David Alcoriza, 27, (Lodi, Calif.) was 20th with 128.

International shooting competition continues as U.S. athletes travel to Germany for the 1996 UIT Suhl World Cup, Jun. 9-13.
