COURSE OBJECTIVES:  Organizational Economics is designed to give the student a solid conceptual framework for analyzing organizational problems and structuring a more efficient organizational architecture. Likewise, the course emphasizes managerial economic concepts and discusses how it can be used for making operational decisions.

REQUIRED TEXT:Brickley, Smith, Zimmerman, Managerial Economics and Organizational Architecture. Boston: McGraw-Hill Irwin, 3rd Ed (2004) and The Wall Street Journal. Highly recommended but not mandatory books to read are: Good to Great by Jim Collins, New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 1st Ed (2001) & 24 Days by Rebecca Smith and John R. Emshwiller, New York: HarperCollins Publishers, 1st Ed (2003).
 
LEARNING ENVIRONMENT:   Attendance, student participation, and enthusiasm are essential ingredients for success in this course. I expect the classroom to be an environment that is conducive to active learning. You are strongly encouraged to attend regularly. You are responsible for obtaining any information that is given in the event you must miss a class. While in attendance, turn off your cell phones and beepers. During exams, do not wear caps.

OFFICE HOURS:   After each class or scheduled at a mutually convenient time. DON'T CALL ME AT HOME. My house is not my office. Call the Faculty Administration Office, the Economics Department or email me if you would like to talk to me.

REQUIREMENT AND GRADING:   A course grade will be assigned on the basis of student performance on three exams. The semester grade will be based on the standard grading sclae of A= 90-100; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 60-69; F = <60.

I will not give make-up exams, except under very necessary and clearly documentable circumstances. No early exams will be given either.

STUDENT CONDUCT:  Each student is fully bound by the regulations concerning student conduct.  They are contained in the University of Memphis Student Handbook (available from Office of the Assistant Dean of Students at the University Center).  Individuals caught cheating or plagiarizing should be prepared for the consequences.
