Scott's Review of Tal Dorgar - The God Machine

Tal Dorgar- After looking at the cover work of Tal Dorgar's tape, and after hearing the name of the tape (The God Machine), I was really ready to hear it. I wasn't sure rather to expect a concept album or what, but I really thought this tape was going to have something intelligent to say.

This tape has some real problems right off the bat. First, the tape quality is low, which by itself isn't a problem. After all, I know that bands are working on a limited income. But it also is mixed very poorly, if at all. The vocals dominate over the music at times so much that you can barely hear the music at all.

The vocal domination wouldn't be a bad thing, if the vocals weren't so bad. I'm not sure what is causing it, but the vocals are going up and down in the octave scale, having a "yo-yo" effect. Now, for one or two songs this wouldn't be so bad, but the whole tape is like this. I'm not sure if it's the music making the vocalist do this, or if it's just the vocalist. Either way, it's really annoying.

If this band wants to go somewhere, they really need to hand the vocal responsibilities off to someone else and they need to make sure that their next release is of a little better quality.
