Scott's Review of Clockwork - Search

Clockwork- Whenever a band starts out, the one thing that almost all of them has in common is the desire to have their own, unique sound. It is very apparrent that Clockwork is attempting to do just that. While they remain true to progressive metal, they explore it's boundaries to the fullest.

clockworkWith Clockwork's "Search", you get the feeling that the name of the album means something to these guys. Although their CD is only 4 tracks for about 25 minutes worth of jam, you can literally hear them "searching" for unknown areas of progressive metal. In addition, Clockwork does an awesome job of breaking the monotany that many bands fall prey to. They are always changing the song so that you can never tell where it's going...but in a good way.

The last track on the CD, called "For an Angel" is an absolutely brilliant piece of music. Unfortunately, this track is only about 2 minutes long. I feel this song could be added onto to make a great 10 minute track. It starts off with beautiful piano work, which is soon accompanied by some great keyboard work. I would really like to see this one expanded on.

Clockwork is certainly headed in the right direction. One minor critique of their work (albeit not entirely their fault) is that it's somewhat apparent that the lead singer wasn't entirely comfortable with some of the range that the songs required. This is not surprising considering that their former lead singer left the band the day before they entered the studio to record this album. Sometime later, their new lead singer had to go back and lay down vocals over the previously recorded tracks. Obviously, this won't be a problem with their next release. I can't wait to see where this band goes!
