A story I started when i was 9

Strange Happenings on the Planet Mouse-O

Explanation...

When I was in grade 5, there was a strike at school. My mom, being a teacher, joined up with some neighbourhood friends and had some of us kids practicing math and language skills while we were out of school. Every day we had to write for a certain length of time, ending with the *ding* of a bell. Just for fun, I've typed it below, leaving the original punctuation (or lack thereof), but fixing the spelling. If there're any like minded 9-ish year olds out there in cyber space who would like to complete the story, e-mail me and i'll include it!

Strange Happenings on the Planet Mouse-O

A cat that was pink with purple polk-a-dots was being chased by a brown moth-eaten mouse. He was from the planet Mouse-O that was made out of cheese. The girl switched off the T.V. and went to her little brother’s chair. He babbled and bubbled because he had just swallowed a piece of soap. She said to him, "I wish I could live on the planet Mouse-O forever." The baby gurgled and smiled. Susan ran off to tell her mother, Samantha, that Sam had smiled.

While she was walking down the hall she smelt a cheesy smell coming from her room. She opened the door to her room and a bright light blinded her for a few minutes. When she opened her eyes, she was on the planet Mouse-O. It smelt like old cheddar cheese that had gone rotten. She blinked her eyes in amazement. "Wh… wh… where am I?" she whispered to nobody in particular. "You are on the planet Mouse-O" a small voice squeaked. "What galaxy am I in?" she inquired. "You are in the galaxy Ping-Pong." All of a sudden her little brother appeared out of nowhere. "Hi Susy." He said quietly. "You can talk!" she exclaimed in wonder. "That’s because we’re on the planet Mouse-O" he said. Out of nowhere, a pink and purple polk-a-dotted cat appeared being chased by the mouse. The mouse said, "Whenever you see a cat you will be able to see me. If there is no cat you are invisible to me." The cat disappeared and so did the mouse. Then a yellow and purple fuzz ball appeared. "Hi" it yelped. "I am glad to finally meet my biggest fans." "Poofy!" Sam and Susan yelled together. "I haven’t seen you on T.V. for ages!" screamed Susan. "I’ve been away on vacation. "Poofy says. Sam can’t control his emotions. He runs forward and gives Poofy a big smacking kiss on his huge green nose. "I love you!" he said softly. "I love you too." Poofy says.

As you may know, yellow and purple fuzz balls are extremely lovable and rare. This one was no exception. It had no pink or green hairs yet, it was the last one of its kind and extremely lovable. The cat appeared again. "Hi guys and gals. I’m a real cool cat. The name’s Petunia." A petunia is pink or purple sometimes but this cat was pink and purple striped, and wherever he went bees, wasps and wombats followed him. I know why the bees and wasps followed him, because he smelt like a flower, but I have no idea why the purple wombat with the orange ears and yellow tail tagged along. Maybe he thought that the cat was some kind of strange sunflower because that is a wombats’ favourite food.

Without knowing it Poofy started walking. Petunia followed, with the mouse tagging behind. Sam and Susan didn’t notice the three heading off. They were tired because in earth time it was 5 hours past their bedtime. They went to sleep thinking that the others were resting too. While they were sleeping they dreamed that they were in a cavern that was filled with stalagmites and stalactites. At the back of the cave there was a shimmering orange and gold lake. When they woke up the air was a misty yellow colour. Sam and Susan looked at each other and without even talking they knew that their destination was the cavern. Sam said he thought they should go East and Susan thought that they should go North. So they went North-East. And what do you know? After 17 days of weary travelling they reached the cavern! The cave looked even better than it had in their dreams. The stalagmites and stalactites glistened with an eerie glow that was blue in the noon-day sun. The dull lake reflected the disappointed children’s faces. It looked nothing like it had in their dreams. But soon their faces lit up when they heard the far off tinkling of a large waterfall. Both of them thought they should go look for it. Sam headed for the back wall so Susan followed. At the back wall there was a large ledge just above Sam’s head. On the ledge was a gigantic green salamander. When Sam and Susan approached the back wall the salamander got frightened and ran into a hole. Where the salamander was sitting there was a great big button labeled "Push Me" so Susan gave it a push. The back wall opened to reveal a large tinkling waterfall. It took their breaths away. Susan gasped and slid to the floor. When Sam bent down to help her he too crumpled to the floor. When they revived they were in a long chamber with rainbow walls. Then they went back to sleep again. When they woke up they were being guarded by some orange and yellow creatures. The creatures had no eyes just feelers and their bodies looked like tennis balls. All day and all night while Sam and Susan were thinking ways of getting out the creatures were frowning. After the sixth day without food, water or any noise, Susan thought that they should try and escape. The biggest tennis ball crossed his antennae and said "I can read your minds lowly earthlings so don’t try anything. Okay?" He didn’t hear an answer but he could read their minds and they were saying "NO!" with a capital N O.

But after a few more days without food or water they finally agreed that they wouldn’t try to escape. Then they took away 15 guards and since there were only 16 to begin with they were being guarded by one measly wimpy tennis ball. The tennis ball looked sick so Susan sent some thought waves to it to go lie down. It took her advice and in a few micro seconds was asleep. Susan and Sam smiled at each other and slowly got up. It was then they realized that they were tied up with invisible ropes. "Shucks!" Sam yelled, stamping his feet as much as possible which was only about two inches. "I want to go home!" Susan screamed "Now!" The guard jumped and hit his head when Susan yelled, and knocked himself unconscious. Sam thought that maybe just maybe he could wiggle over to the guard and find the spell to release the ropes. He started wiggling toward the guard. The other 15 guards came back into the room. The leader sent some thought waves to Susan and Sam telling them that trying to escape was impossible. "Agghawoo!" moaned Susan. "We will never get out of here!" cried Sam. "You’re right you lowly earthlings snarled the leader of the tennis balls. "In a few years after you have calmed down a bit we will turn you into us and your pesky mouse with you!" This only made Sam and Susan scream louder. Then Susan said "What mouse?" The tennis ball silently pointed into the far corner with one of his antennae. There, huddled in the corner was the brown mouse shivering from fright, hunger and cold.

"Hi guys." He said feebly. Sam said, "How can we see you when before we could only see you when there were cats around?" "That’s because most of these tennis balls used to be cats." Boom! Crash! Bang! Whiz!! A whole bunch of fireworks came whizzing through the wall. A strange looking alley creature came in followed by his pet, Astro Bug. His name was Galaxy. Behind Astro Bug there came a long low centipede on a leash. It smiled and bowed. "Hi" it screeched. "I am an orange Gimp from the planet Gimp City. I have no brothers or sisters and I was lost when Galaxy found me." He looked at Astro Bug. Astro Bugs were delicacies on the planet Gimp City. "How very interesting" murmured Susan. "I am very glad to meet you." Sam thought. He smiled. "I am very glad to meet you too" he said. "AHH I already knew that" said Gimp. "You have special telepathic waves that are very strong so I know what you are thinking even before you say it." "How very impressive" the mouse said.

While all this was happening, the tennis balls were staring at them in amazement. "I never knew anybody else had mind reading powers. I thought that I was the only one." He grinned sheepishly. "What does that have to do with anything?" questioned Gimp. "It made me think I was superior" he said. Gimp said that if Sam and Susan wanted to go anywhere he would carry them on his back. When he touched his belly button 7 chairs popped into view on his back. When they needed him they would whistle Humpty Dumpty as loud as they could. Then Gimp would come speeding faster than lightning to where they were. He had powerful ears that could hear stuff from 18 miles away. "Wow!" exclaimed Susan. "Let’s try it" said Sam. Gimp sped away and Susan whistled as soft as she could which to Gimp would sound louder than 100 elephants stampeding as hard as they could. He came into view in a very short period of time. "How’d I do? Did I pass the test?" "I’ve never seen anyone run so fast" praised Susan. He beamed. "Would you like a ride?" he asked Sam. "Oh, wow yes" he said. "Then it’s settled all of you will come on a test drive. Anybody who does not want to come?" Nobody moved. "Then it’s settled. I will need 12 more seats." "How will you get 12 more seats?" asked the tennis ball leader. "Well I come with extra attachments" he laughed. He pressed his nose fast 30 times in a row 7 more seats appeared. "Each set only comes with 7 seats" he explained. Sam said "Can I press your nose for you?" "Sure" answered Gimp. 7 more seats appeared. "Great job" said Gimp. Sam beamed and smiled. "Thanks" he said. They climbed into the seat Sam and Susan first then Galaxy and Astro Bug then the mouse followed by the 16 tennis balls. "Comfortable seats" remarked the mouse. "Yeah" agreed Sam and Susan.

They zoomed through the hole in the wall that Galaxy had made with his fireworks. Susan had long hair and it was being blown by the wind into Galaxy’s face. But he was so shy that he did not complain. Astro Bug told Susan that her hair was bothering Galaxy. So she got her yellow and blue striped hairband out of her pocket and put it in her hair. Galaxy smiled reassuringly at her. "Thank you" he mumbled. Susan thought that Astro Bug was cute. "He’s so darling" she told Sam. Sam replied "And he has good manners too" "Yeah!" agreed Susan. Soon they were going so fast they were flying. "Hey!" Susan yelled "We’re flying!" Galaxy opened his eyes and looked down. He gave a dissatisfied grunt. Astro Bug explained "Galaxy just about fell off the Brooklyn bridge when he was 3 ½ but a bystander grabbed his leg and saved him." "Oh, I understand." She said. "I got over my fear of heights when I was 7. I was at the top of the CN Tower. The CN Tower is at least 5 times higher than we’re right now. Sometime maybe you should take Galaxy to the CN Tower. He might get over his fear of heights when he realizes that this is nothing compared to the CN Tower." "Good idea" said Astro Bug. "I think I will." With every word that Astro Bug said, Galaxy shuddered. Then Gimp shouted back "Is everybody okay? I seem to have sprouted a pair of wings." "We’re fine!" shouted back everybody except Galaxy. The trip seemed to take forever. Galaxy moaned in his sleep. Everybody started to get drowsy. In 6 minutes after they had left the ground everybody was asleep. Even Gimp! After 2 weeks had gone by, Galaxy started to wake up. "Are we still up high in the sky?" he grumbled. His question made Astro Bug wake up then Susan.

Okay, that's where it was left, in October of 1986 or so... I think that's the last thing i wrote that wasn't technically required for school. And the only other one that i know of was a sequel to the Pokey Little Puppy and that was from a few years before.
