Worldcom                   Technology Development Engineer              Richardson, TX

·         Helped develop the company’s Ethernet services deployment strategy, evaluating alternatives such as Ethernet over Wavelengths, Packet over SONET, Ethernet over SONET, MPLS, and RPR including capital cost modeling of each alternative.

·         Evaluated products from dozens of vendors on the basis of architecture, scalability, cost, performance, and adherence to Ethernet standards.

·         Tested performance of Ethernet switches and Ethernet over SONET products in the areas of throughput, latency, jitter, flow control, switch time, and impact of large numbers of VLANs and MAC addresses using test equipment from Ixia, Smartbits, and Adtech.

·         Helped with several of the company’s first Ethernet RFIs, RFPs, and Specifications.

·         Developed the company’s Multipoint Ethernet Services strategy, including the release of an RFI.

·         Developed Ethernet test plans for testing different types of Ethernet equipment.

·         Evaluated test equipment from several vendors for lab purchase.

·         Primarily designed and ordered fiber optic systems from the OC-3 to OC-192 signal level for the Western Region, especially the San Francisco Bay Area, using equipment primarily from Fujitsu and Nortel, but also including Lucent and Alcatel.

·         Designed and ordered Alcatel, DSC, and Tellabs DCS and Nortel IDLC equipment.

·         Created Excel and Visio drawing templates for representing fiber optic systems, including high speed optics, low speed drops, and DWDM.

·         Developed a strong technical knowledge of DWDM, optical amplification, and loss budgeting.

·         Worked on detail engineering of LEC collocation cages for Project 2000, including cable running lists, rack face drawings, installation instructions, and ordering racks, cable ladders, fiber management, cross connects, power distribution, and HDSL equipment.

·         Star Performer in Operations and Technology Award.
