Albumography:
Experience
(1992)
Experience was made back in the days when The Prodigy were the world's leading rave act, and is not only the best Prodigy album, but also the best rave record ever made. Almost all the tracks have a huge amount of energy, and although some might say they lack a little in depth, but I say who needs depth when you've got high speed drum beats and amusing samples? The only let-down is the the fact that 'Charly' is here only in a drum and bass version.
Music for the Jilted Generation
(1994)
The Prodigy's second album won lots of awards and was more polished than it's predecessor, but with the band now beginning to move torwards more 'serious' techno, it somehow didn't have the raw energy of Experience. However, it still makes an excellent album, with the new aural power coming over particularly well in 'Poison' and the PWEI collaboration 'Their Law'.
Fat of the Land
(1997)
With the Prodigy rapidly becoming one of the world's biggest bands, they inevitably had to bow to commercial pressure and head for the mainstream. Sort of. Fat of the Land is part rock, part techno, and generally very loud. Sometimes it works very well, as on 'Firestarter' and the hip-hop track 'Diesel Power', but sometimes it just ends up as a shouty mess. The Prodigy are clearly now one of the loudest bands on the planet, but can we have a few more ideas going into the next album please?
