Resident of the City of Florence, AL

Background

I am 23 years of age and was born in Florence, AL on April 3rd, 1974.  I went to Bradshaw High School and graduated in 1992.  I then pursued a Chemical Engineering degree from Auburn University.  I graduated from Auburn University (Magna Cum Laude) in the Spring quarter of 1997.  I am now presently enrolled at UAB Medical School and hope to graduate in the year 2001.  I am leaning towards cardiac surgery   or maybe plastic surgery. UAB is one of the top medical schools in the United States and is represented by many fine physicians world wide. Kirklan Clinic is near the downtown campus and involves major cardiac surgeries founded by John Kirklan. Kirklan studied under Owen Wagansteen as did William DeVries (first to transplant an artificial heart), Christiaan Barnard (first to transplant human heart), and Michael DeBakey.

I feel blessed to be counted among my peers at UAB. Everyone that I have met seems very dedicated, extremely intelligent, and very hard working. All of the professors are top notch and the school itself integrates many of the physicians, surgeons, and researchers as lecturers for our courses. For more information about applying to medical school or UAB itself, check out the hyperlinks below.

I am fascinated by space, astronomy, and the common celestial objects that you can see with the naked eye.  Here is a picture of the Andromeda Galaxy (M31 = NGC224 at a distance 2.2 million light-years) as viewed through the Kitt Peak National Observatory.  The other two elliptical galaxies are analagous to our Magellanic Clouds and are M32 (NGC221, nearest to the spiral arm of Andromeda) and NGC205 (distal from the center of the Andromedal disk).
