Settlement School
Pi Beta Phi Settlement School is the name under which Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts is incorporated. It began as the actual settlement school for children of the mountain people in this Appalachian region.
Arrowmont
Dedicated in 1970, the Arrowmont building complex consists of large well-equipped studios for metal, enameling, textile design and photography, as well as multi-purpose studios for painting, drawing, papermaking, book arts, basketry, spinning, quilting and stained glass. Each year more than 100 visiting faculty members teach a wide variety of media offerings.
Links to Literacy
In order to provide a philanthropy in which all Pi Phi chapters and alumnae clubs can participate, the Fraternity, early in 1990, selected literacy as a service project for Pi Phis. In keeping with the fraternity's original educational mission at Settlement school, alumnae clubs and chapters today are helping to identify and fill literacy needs within their local communities through "Links to Literacy." Chapters can find local agenciesor schools which welcome their assistance with book distribution or one-on-one interaction with pupils who need extra attention as they learn to read.
