I am a volunteer firefighter with the Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department in Weirton, WV.
Today the department operates four pieces of apparatus from two fire stations. Located at the city-owned Gilson Ave. fire
station is Engine 37, a 1987 Emergency One triple combination pumper with a 1,250 gpm midship pump, and Squad 31, a
converted ambulance now used as a personnel carrier and salvage vehicle. Located at the department owned West End fire
station is Quint 35, a 1984 Pierre Thibault heavy pumper equipped with a 100 ft. heavy duty aerial ladder. This unit boasts a
1,750 gpm midship pump and a pre-piped ladder pipe which is capable of being transferred electrically from the tip fly to the
second fly. This permits the tip of the ladder to be placed adjacent to a building for rescue or access or, with the flip of a
switch, to transfer the ladder pipe nozzle to the tip for fire fighting. Quint 35 is not a "true" quintuple combination pumper as it
lacks a full complement of ground ladders - it carries standard pumper ground ladders. A second apparatus house with Q-35 is
Squad 33, a 1978 Ford personnel carrier equipped with a 1,500 gpm rear mounted pump.
