These are the two basic types of diving mask.
![]() The left mask is a low profile mask. This fits very closely to your face. This makes it much easier to clear your mask if some water finds its way in. The only problem with this type of mask is you tend to have tunnel vision, i.e. you can't see to the sides that well. The right mask is a wrap around mask. It has extra pannels on the sides to give you a more complete view. The problem with these masks are they are not that low profile so quite a lot of water can collect in them. This will then take longer to clear. There are low profile, wide vision masks currently being developed but are, of course, more expensive. Actualy, when I first created these web pages, low profile, wide vision masks were more expensive but nowadays, they are very common and pretty much the same price as every other type of mask. The common design is simply to have a low profile mask and connect the two eye sockets together so there is only one piece of tempered glass. This gives a very sufficent view.
