Chi Omega's National Philanthropy is the Make-A-Wish Foundation! This past Chirstmas the sisters of Zeta Delta volunteered their time at the Make-A-Wish booth at Oak View Mall, wrapping people's presents. It was an enjoyable experience and we look forward to working with the foundation in the near future! READ ALOUD ~ The sisters of Chi Omega have worked with a local third grade class by reading to them and supplying them with books for their enjoyment. During Recruitment 2000 Chi Omega made book marks for the children to encourage reading. The children are wonderful and make the time spent with them enjoyable! CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT ~ Locally, the Zeta Delta chapter has contributed to the needs of UNO's campus through various activities including the Chi Omega Easter Egg Hunt. Every Spring Chi Omega has held its Easter Egg Hunt, which delights the children of UNO students, faculty and staff. The hunt has been quaint enough in the past two years to allow children to hunt for more than one egg, where in the past it was limited. The ladies are always happy to perform the task of stuffing the eggs and gathering gift certificates for the parents. Don't forget the cheerful sister that gets to wear the bunny suit and takes pictures with the children! Perhaps that's why we do it in the first place! Other campus community services the Chi Omega's have been involved with include: UNO WOMEN'S WALK ~ The sisters have faithfully walked and raised money in support of UNO women's athletics. BELL TOWER CHALLENGE ~ The point of the Bell Tower Challenge is to gather the most canned food and stack it in a minute. In 1998 the sorority won most spirited and in 1999 they won most cans stacked/raised. All proceeds go to the local Food Bank. CAMP OUT FOR HUNGER ~ During Homecoming the pep bowl is filled with clothing and canned food donated by different organizations and individuals. Chi Omega has participated in this service anually. This year's proceeds went to the Salvation Army. SERVICE WITH OTHERS ~ Nothing makes serving others more enjoyable when it's done in a group. Chi Omega has done many service projects that focus on building relationships with others at the same time. PIKES ~ The ladies of Chi Omega have teamed in the past with the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity to entertain children at the Salvation Army for a morning. The children were delighted with a mini-carnival in which they won prizes and made crafts. The Chi Omegas have also been called upon for the PIKE CHALLENGE, in which they sell popcorn on behalf of the Boy Scouts of America. THETA CHI~ Chi Omega held a Bowl-A-Thon with the Theta Chi Fraternity to raise money for a woman's shelter. PANHELLENIC ~ Chi Omega has done panhellenic community services such as Greeks in the Streets. CHI OMEGA ~ The Zeta Dleta chapter of Chi Omega had the privilege of doing a fundraiser with two other Chi Omega chapters. The sisters got together with the Kappa chapter from University of Nebraska at Lincoln and the Iota Zeta chapter from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. The fundraiser was in support of Kate, a Chi Omega house mother in Lincoln who had cancer. The fundraiser "Skate for Kate" allowed sisters to donate money in support of Kate or the Cancer Foundation. A good time was had by all, and it gave the ladies a chance to meet their sisters from across the state. SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY ~ On July 22, 2000 seven Chi Omegas helped Volunteer Solutions Omaha: Volunteer Day 2000. The sisters met in the Gene Leahey Mall, where they were introduced to Mayor Hal Daub. Mayor Daub specifically thanked Chi Omega for attending Volunteer Day 2000 in his speech. Following breakfast, the Chi Omegas headed to Chalco Hills where they helped clean the lakeside. Chi Omega hopes to become a part of Volunteer Day for years to come! |

Chi Omega has also done small things to brighten the days of others. Such things include baking cookies for faculty and staff, giving the deans of each college May Day baskets, making pillow cases for ill children at Children's Hospital, sending Valentine's to the children at the UNMC, tie-dying socks for children at the UNMC, and so much more. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
