SBCHS75 SoCal holds a ROARING 'Winter in L.A.' !

  • Dec. 6, Glendale, CA: 'WINTER IN L.A.', this year's Christmas Ball, chaired by Da Basement CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) Caes Anonas, was graced by performers from the US tour of 'Ms. Saigon' featuring Ms. Joyce Bautista, April Malina and Clifton Hall. We were treated to songs from 'Ms. Saigon' and 'Les Miserables', as well as, '70s and the latest dance tunes. Our emcees, Sheila Bajamundi and Al Alcantara, made it a lively night filled with raffle prizes and games. HS75 SoCal graciously accepted the SBCAASC's request to join our festivities making it the Association's X'mas party as well.

Of course, the Ithmile Dancers got another standing ovation for their dance tribute to Barry White, who left us this year. The group was led this year by Carol Sityar, wife of Dwight. After much dining, wining and dancing, the Mischievous Boyz2Men Tabernacle Choir, led by Joyce, sang 'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree'.

We were joined this year by our batchmate whom we have not seen since he migrated to the U.S. during our sophomore year, Miguel Yrurre, and now resides in San Francisco. Also joining for the first time is Houston, TX resident, Ray Reyes, who was in L.A. just weeks earlier for a seminar. He flew back that night just to be with us, and teach our ladies some dance steps.

Capping the night was a performance by Ms. Louie Reyes, a member of the New Minstrels and guest of SBCAASC President Adrian Gomez. Ms. Reyes sang 2 Christmas songs for us.

But the night was not over until we sang our traditional song of thanks, "Sometimes". See you next year!

Guest of Horror: Dodo "Magno Rubio" Gonzales!

  • Oct. 25, Da Basement, CA: Da Boyz and Gehls of SBCHS75 once again scared away the rats and insects at Da Basement and Da Decks on Saturday, October 25, 2003. Most were surprised by the appearance of Dodo-Jojo-Dojo Gonzales of Broadway New York, who is in town for a play from November through December. Dodo judged the best outfits for the night. More news and pictures later...

    SBCHS75-SoCal's Saturday in the Park

  • Sept. 27, Duarte, CA: Da Boyz once again graced the SBCAASC picnic with sweet desserts and fruits. We are also joined by Lito Landrito of HS'76 since his batchmates are always MIA. He brought 3 boxes of pies on our behalf.

HS'81 teamed up with HS'75, incl. Butch C. and Jojo P. + Lito, to form the White team that won this year's Basketball tournament. The perennial trophy is now on display at our party HQ, Da Basement.

Representing HS'75 with the partners were Sonny A. & Zelda, Caes A. & Susan, Bubut G. & Menchie, Butch C. & Anne, Raffy B. & Sheila and JoPad and very close friend, Darlene. Fred Young and Sonny V. came solo! We also saw faces we haven't seen for 30 years or so, including Ferdie Gonzales from grade school, and Bobby Buencamino, who left early in HS.

Finally, the elections were held for next year's set of officers. Out of 9 slots for Board of Directors, 5 went of HS'75 - Sonny A., Al A., Bubut G., Joseph, and Sonny V. However, Joseph and Sonny V. declined this year's positions to give others a chance to serve the most solid Alumni Association in Southern California.

Fr. Columbano gets Lei'd in LuWow

  • Da Basement,SoCal, July 12, 2003 - (by Sonny V.)

Weeks of preparation by the July birthday celebrants and spouses culminated in another smashing hit that WOWed our guests - the July LuWOW Feast, celebrating the birthdays of Sonny A., Al A., Bubut G., Sonny V., and spouses, Susan A. Zelda A. and Sheila B. Coinciding with our celebration was a visit to USA by Fr. Columbano, whose fondest memories for most of us was his firm handshake that left us twisting and moaning with pain.

Caes surprised us, first of all, with his newly renovated wooden deck. Thus, Da Basement has now been extended with Da Deck! It is so huge that all activities could be accomodated at all 3 levels. We started the festivities with a mass held by Fr. Columbano in the upper deck. Fr. talked about our past and his present mission, which is to help build the still unfinished Monastery of the Transfiguration in Bukidnon, Philippines. According to Raffy B., the collection that night was more than he collected from the SBCAASC camping.

After the mass, the Ithmile Dancers' July celebrants WOWed the guests with a lovely Hawaiian dance number. It gave a little break for the bartender, Caes, who had been mixing mai tai and other concoctions all afternoon. Is that why Fr. Columbano kept talking and laughing ?

After speeches by celebrants came the presentation of LuWOW food. Paraded from the lower deck were mian dishes, fruits and desserts, and from the upper deck came more dishes and finally the lechon, which was sent through Bunny by JoLu. Thanks, JoLu !!!

After dinner was another dance number by the Ithmile dancers now joined by Donna O., Belen V. and Sonia. We were treated to a Beach Boys' surfin mix at the middle deck. Parang cruise ship, 'no ?

And back by popular demand was another rendition of our SNF dance, led by Choreographer Geo, who taught the Ithmile dancers' latest numbers.

After all the booze, food, music and dance, we had a little Comedy Club session as guests pitched in their funny, old, new, and corny jokes. But all of them seemed funny, especially after our sixth glass of mai tai. All in all, it was another night of FUN for SBCHS75 So Cal. Oh, did I mention the side shows around the neighborhood ? Lovely views I must say, including the full moon.

So, thanks one and all from the July babies!

Bagyong Egay (of HS75) Hits Bedan Picnic

  • Shelter 2, Pohick Bay Park, Virginia, June 14, 2003 (as reported by the Washington Bedan) - Ang bagyong Egay ay nagdala ng maraming pang-ihaw para sa mga Bedista ng Washington. Mag-hapon siyang nag-ihaw.

Binagyo rin ang mga batang nag-e-enjoy sa tubig but that was after they had a ton of fun jet skiing around the bay (the picture on the left is similar to John's jetski; the girl is very similar to the one that the guys met at the dock). We lost our youngest member, Jon (his family moved to California) but we gained a new young member EJ (Welcome!). Welcome din kay Melo, ang namamahala ng ating fund raising efforts (more on that on a separate e-mail); we need Ronald for some financial advise.

But, of course, we have a pending invitation for a picnic at Lake Ana, too. Muntik ng mag-pa-ulan ng tickets si Jesse para sa concert in Geneva Cruz pero hindi na tuloy sa sama ng panahon.

See the Washington DC picnic pictures.

  • May 5, 2003 (Mendiola) - Get detailed information on the SBC Alumni League at the Washington Bedan Website.

Here is a write-up from Fr. Lukas fit for a daily diary:

we lost a the second game against '78(yata) coming from a 30 point win the previous game. sa totoo lang naging overconfident kami for the second game. players came in late, no warm-ups, peptalks dahil alam namin kaya...the reality, telekinasis na ang laro by the fourth quarter,'ball come to me!!'

so i was requested to coach for the second game with chito loyzaga and frankie lim now present(wala last game)...ang kalaban batch 80 yata sina frizt cznilao, arce, reccio, celis, no pushovers, magagaling rin and 5 years younger! palitan ng lamang and we lost sa end game, 2 points lang yata.

...ang hirap mag-coach kapag panay superstar ang players, lahat gustong maglaro: imagine, 17 players yun aking binigyan ng rotation! sabi ko sa, oras na may maglakad, labs agad, substi. after the game sabi ko ayoko na!

so the next game agist '79, sina samboy lim, jojovalerio, magalong et al, ang naging gameplan eh tila practice game, no direct coach pakiramdaman, kahiyaan ang palitaan, ayos naman ang rotation however si SAMBOY LIM was a one man show: 57points ang ginawa. three poinst, splitting the defense, foulbait plus freethrow pa...THE WORKS. ACTUALLY ang sarap panoorin!! naturally talo muli kami.

maganda eh sportsmanship, respect and enjoy lang yun game...denial lang yun iba: hard to accept 45 yrs old na kami, shoot then lakad, defense eh telekinesis-:)

may 14 ang next game namin, then each three divisions will have their corresponding champs. bata, medyo-idad and matatanda!...it was FUN TIME for most of the plyers. reunion and time to show off the new gym. bob gadia did a fine construction mgt for the gym. kudos.

SBCHS75 Scholarships handed to NCAA players

  • March 1, 2003 (Abbey, Mendiola) - It sure feels good! Our pledge to support the SBC NCAA Football team players was well worth it after seeing this update from Fr. Lukas:

sobra sa saya, panay 'celebration' ngayon lamang ako nakapagbukas ng emails. mas masarap yun panalo defending the crown...next: '3-peat'!!

hey guys...salamat sa inyong support. SAN BEDA COLLEGE won the 78th ncaa football championship, senior division, season 2002-03. meaning: "BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPS" tayo. and next season: ala-lakers 'THREE-PEAT'

Mas maganda yun trophy ng FIFA FAIR PLAY award. nasa kwarto ko for a week, feeling 'roberto carlos' ako sa room, 'FIFA' award!
