Octavio Pierre Romero is a person of mixed Cherokee and Mexican heritage who believes in the American Indian concept of the Inclusive Society and promotes Social Change for the benefit of all of humanity.

Pierre started working at Mesa College in 1991as a Student Assistant, Pierre has worked in various departments including Counseling/Admissions as Prerequisite Counselor, CalWORKs, Career Center, Disability Support Programs & Services (DSPS), Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS), International Student Program  and as an Instructor of Personal Growth and American Indian Studies.  Prior to Mesa Pierre worked in the American Indian Studies Department at San Diego State University as a Student Assistant and Graduate Teaching Assistant

Pierre has served as a Board member to various Non-profit organizations such as The Associated Students of San Diego State University, The Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park, San Diego and as President of the Third World Counselors Association of California.  Pierre is currently a member of the American Indian Warriors Association and Chair of the Council of American Indian Organizations of San Diego County.

Pierre is a
facilitator of learning who utilizes various instructional and learning methods to insure student success.  An innovative and a stimulating experience from the perspective of the Learning Paradigm.

Mr. Romero completed his Ph.D.  in Sociology at Madison University.  Dissertation research specializes in contemporary American Indian Society and the role of synthesis in maintaining Indian identity.
