Starting a Fitness Program

Physical Fitness is an important aspect to being a healthy person. A person who is not physically fit can have the best diet in the world and still not be healthy. Physical Fitness is a condition that helps us look, feel, and do our best.

Before beginning or increasing physical activity, you should take precautions to ensure a healthy start.

If you are planning to become much more physically active than you are now, start by answering the seven questions in the box below. If you are between the age15 and 69 years of age, and you are not used to being very active, check with your doctor.
Common sense is your best guide when your answer these questions. Please read the questions carefully and answer each one honestly: check YES or NO.

        1. Has your doctor ever said that you have heart trouble?
        2. Do you frequently suffer from pains in your chest?

        4. Has a doctor ever said your blood pressure was too high?
        5. Do you have a bone or joint problem that could be worse by a change in                        your physical activity?
        6. Do you know of any other reason why you should not do physical activity?
        7. Are you over age 65 and not accustomed to vigorous exercise?
