Choose 3- 4 questions a night after your child reads a book to you.


If the book is non- fiction/ expository:

*What was the book about at the beginning?

*What is  important for you to know about in this book?

* What did you learn from reading this book?

* Why do you think the author wrote this book?

*
What did this book make you think about? (personal
experiences)

* What was this book mostly about?

* Tell me about the major events in the story?

* Are there any steps to follow? If so tell me about them.

*What did you notice about the way the book was organized.

* Did you learn anything new?  What?

* What did you learn from reading this book?                        

* What was the author trying to teach us?

* Did this book make you think about another book you have
read? How?

* Did you like this book? Why or why not?

If the book is fiction/ narrative:

* When and where did the story take place? (setting)

* What else can you tell me about the character(s)?

* What else happened in the story?

* Why did the author write this story?

* What was the author trying to teach/ tell us?

* Connect this story to another story or personal experience.  

*  Has anything like this happened to you?

* Did you like this book? Why or why not?

* Where/ when did ______ happen?

* Tell me more about _______.

* Tell me about the plot. (use specific places and characters)

* Tell me what the story was about in a few sentences.      

*What else happened in the story?
