STOP the VIOLENCE, INCREASE the PEACE
Increasing the Peace, By Stopping the Violence
"We cannot afford to do our Enemies work,
By Destroying Each Other"
WHY the VIOLENCE?
It is a fact that most of us try to ignore the Violence
in our neighborhoods, as long as it is
not close to us. Some even remark
"as long as they are killing each other,
let it be". We all agree, that the
killings are tragic and senseless, especially when
we read about them in the paper or see
the dead bodies on TV, but is that
enough? Do we think about those
people, young and old, who have to
live with this violence and bloodshed
every day of their lives, who have no
place to go, and cannot move? Do we think
of the sad and miserable lives of those
who kill and get killed, and for whom,
their is no escape and who, in a sense,
are "born dead". Our young men, must not,
and can not be given up on. Live's can be
saved, dreams can come true. But, First
and foremost we must begin to "Love one
another". We can stop the Violence, by
increasing the love. Unxepected and
radical changes do take place in people.
Life is not as set and final, as we
sometimes think it is. Young African
American males are our FUTURE, We cannot
fail them NOW.
BLACK MALE VIOLENCE
in our communities, may be as a result of
the following factors:
- Anger & Frustration,
from controllable to passive, due to
obstacles put in place by society, to
prevent young Black males from reaching
their goals.
- Constant political pressure from
social and economic forces.
- Chronic Sense of Threat
- Vulnerability, and
Anxiety due to present day and
historical, physical, and psychological
abuse.
- Unemployment, poverty, broken
homes and poor education in neighborhoods
saturated with guns, drugs and liquor
stores, breed Violence and Death by our
own hands.
- Ego Defense, due to sereotyping, many young
Black males are highly sensitive to
protecting their self worth. In turn,
they acquire items of value, to
compensate for feelings of personal
inadequancy.
- Stress from being placed at the bottom of
the Social-economic ladder.
- The many facets of racism, ranging in levels from mild to extreme.
A Fact to Ponder Young Black
males are 6% of the population, yet buy
55% of all Starter Jackets sold in the US.
