Well, Pele has been here for a full month now! And ooooh what fun we have had!! We've done housebreaking (we're THERE!! with an occasional accident) Pele started joining me for daily bus rides to campus and lectures. Right now he attends one 50 minute lecture or one 90 minute lecture Monday thru Friday. On Mondays he also attends my Animal Science discussion class. He's a great asset to class time!
We also had the pleasure of meeting two of his brothers, who also live in Davis! Pele, Preston and Putnam are VERY much alike!
This adorable pair is Hanna and Putnam! Putnam is
Hanna and her family's first guide dog puppy! Together with her
brother Aaron, Hanna and Putnam are learning lots about the
program and about puppy raising daily! Putnam and his littermates
were 13 weeks old when these pictures were taken. Each Friday
until our pups are 6 months old, we meet at a local mall for
"Puppy Class." At these meetings, we work on obedience,
puppy handling and other general behavior. We also have the
chance to share how the pups are doing and discuss ideas on
combating situations that can come up for these young guys.
These two dashing young guys are Luke and
Preston, Pele's other brother living in Davis and his raiser!
Luke and Preston have a wonderful example of future guide work at
home. Luke's father has a working guide. She is a beautiful black
labrador retriever!! These little guys have a long way to go
before they get to that stage of their lives!
Of course, we've had lots of time to take pcitures
of this cutie over the past month! Pele is becoming quite the
camera hog! He loves posing for my camera! When not posing for
pictures, Pele is getting lots of work on his obedience work and
handling. He still is not fond of sitting still for grooming, but
we work on it a little every day!
Pele
has found a favorite spot in our part of the house. We spent tons
of time working on cleaning up the bathroom in themaster bedroom
which we moved into over the past few weeks. Pele has decided
that he loves my shower and the bathroom in general! He is quite
the clown! He loves lying, all curled up next to the toilet and
taking strolls around the teeny tiny shower! When the shower is
turned on, he is stuck outside -but he poses for pictures there
too! Hopefully he will get it through his stubborn little head
that toilet paper is NOT to be eaten!! Luckily, we have time to
work on "perfection!"
Pele also gets to go places like restraunts with
me -here, he is at Steve's Pizza in Davis. Because my birthday
was this month, we went out to several different restraunts with
various friends and family members. Mom and Dad took us to The
Hord Rock Cafe in Sacramento. Pele was a doll! (He made the hour
wait seem MUCH quicker too!)
Pele went to Chilis in Fresno with us too! He sat
under the table just like a big dog! What a good boy!!
He sure is one "Hot Chili!" He
accompanies me on most trips that I take away from the house,
though we still have to be careful to stay away from places other
dogs are allowed to visit! One more month and he will have all
his shots! Then he's free to go where ever I go!
