WATER MANAGEMENT AND CONTROL by David Stevens from BP Exploration, UK.The third SPE evening this year was held on 23rd April 1999 at Riverview Hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan. The topic for that evening was on the "Water Management and Control" and it was sponsored by CIC Sdn Bhd. A brief introduction on the company was given by Peter Lim. This was followed by the main topic of the night. At the end of the presentation, souvenirs from SPE Brunei were given to both sponsoring company and presenter by the Secretary of SPE Brunei, Hj. Mohd. Yussof Hj. Mat Don.
ABSTRACT OF THE PRESENTATION
Produced water is the largest volume associated drilling and production waste. The water cycle includes all aspects from production to re-injection which must be managed properly. Knowledge of the production, injection, sweep, producers, facilities and disposal is essential. Current field examples demonstrate the techniques of advanced intervention options. These intervention options include fixing "wet" oil and gas producers and design and optimal operation of injectors. The overall objective is to keep or replace water into the target zone. Application of these techniques leads to a discussion of the future of waterflood profile control in the reservoirs. Ultimately, "water-proofing" or "gas-proofing" non-conventional producers are controlled through application of these intervention options."
