"Maximising Recovery From Mature Fields" by Dr. Shafiq Allahwala - Sponsored by Elf
This is the second dinner and lecture function organised by the SPE Brunei this year. The function, which took place at the Sheraton Utama on 9th March, was sponsored by Elf Petroleum.
After treating all the attendees with good food at the pool side restaurant, the Vice Chairman II, Hj. Zainal Abidin Hj. Md. Ali, announced that there will be an applied technology workshop "Cost Effective/Practical Reservoir Management" this year. The workshop will be held at the Sheraton Utama Brunei on 23-26th August. This workshop will be in the form of discussion group and sharing experience through case studies from Brunei and the Asian region. A maximum of 40 participants will only be selected. It is hoped that around 40% participation will come from Bruneian engineers. The workshop will be further announced via the SPE journals, news letters and the SPE Brunei Website :-

Hj Zainal Abidin then introduced Dr. Shafiq Allahwala who is one of the SPE distinguished lecturers and currently working as a senior business co-ordinator in the Oil Company of Australia Ltd. He also has worked with Esso and Shell International. One of his interests is the surveillance and further development of mature oil fields.
Dr. Shafiq Allahwala shared his knowledges and experiences on the topic "Maximising Recovery For Mature Fields". He presented and discussed three case studies from Australia and Middle East in which further economic oil development/ activities had been carried out in those mature fields. Many interesting questions and answers, and sharing of experiences by the attendees followed the presentation. Hj. Zainal Abidin shared his views on the "Old Lady" i.e. the Seria Field which is one of the matured fields in Brunei and has produced more than 1 billion barrels. He is hopeful that with technological advancements the Old Lady can still produce another one or two billion barrels more!

It was attended by around 80 participants from various sectors in the oil and gas industries in Brunei and the University of Brunei Darussalam.
