Preheat Oven to 375 degrees F (about 180 degrees Celsius)
Cream:
Half a cup of butter (4 ozs) (Leave this out early; butter must be SOFT. this is about two-fifths of a standard bar)
Add gradually & beat until creamy:
Half a cup of brown sugar
Half a cup of white sugar
Beat in:
One egg
Half a teaspoon of vanilla
Sift & stir in:
One cup and 2 tablespoons of sifted all-purpose flour
Half a teaspoon of salt
Half a teaspoon of baking soda
Stir in:
Half a cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
(for choc cookies, melt in the microwave and stir in)
Drop the batter from a teaspoon, well apart, on a greased cookie sheet, for about 10 min, until it looks/feels crunchy.
