Welcome
to Geology Department.
The
Department of Geology was the first of its kind to be established on Thailand, offerring
the B.Sc. Degree for science students. At present, the Department extends
its service to postgraduate study at M.Sc. level. The Department is equipped
with laboratories and equipment for mineralogy, geochemistry, paleontology,
petrography and photogeology. Other facilities for self-learning are available,
such as a geology library, museum, map and aerial photo room. A number
of geological research projects are actively undertaken by the staff members
and students. Examples are a geological assessment of the potential of
rare-earth-bearing mineral resources in Thailand; the relationship between
fracture lineaments and mineralization; a comparative study of the Chao
Phraya and the Mekong deltas, land conditions and historical development.
Technical services and assistance are also extended to the public, such
as identification and analyses of minerals, rock and water samples, identification
of fossils, geological field mapping, etc. Job opportunities for geology
graduates are widely available in many government agencies, state enterprises
and the private sector, namely, the Department of Mineral Resources, the
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the lrrigation Department
and oil and mining companies.
