Professor W.F. Beeser had domicile in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
He was born in May 24, 1930 and graduated from the Amsterdam University
in June, 1959. Before he came
to work with the Thai government service, he taught at
the Geological Institute of Amsterdam University and carried out
the technical and stratigraphical fieldwork in France for 3 months. He
also gained experiences in geological works in various countries including
in Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Switzerland, Germany, Norway and Sweden.
Professor W.F. Beeser arrived Thailand on May 28, 1960 and started
to work with the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, Chulalongkorn
University on May 30, 1960. Since then, he had worked at the Chulalongkorn
University with perseverance and great care. As a result, when the contract
terminated in 1969, he was approved to continue his working contract with
the government.
Professor W.F. Beeser played a significant role in improving the
course of study, teaching and participating in fieldwork for the geology
students since 1960. He also participated in drafting and teaching the
study courses of Master’s Degree of Science (Geology). Furthermore,
he was invited to participate in various government and private organizations
as a committee member, an advisor and a planner. He continued his good
works which benefited the Thai nation a great deal. He was eventually decorated
by His Majesty the King the Jaturathapornmongkutthai decoration in April
30, 1968.
Physically strong, Professor W.F. Beeser led his student to the excursions
and fieldwork throughout his 22 working years. He was never been confined
in any hospital treatment until July, 1981 when he was examined to have
brain cancer. He went to have the first operation at Chulalongkorn hospital
and came back to teach at the Department of Geology again until 1982. Due
to his frail health, all the lecturers in the Department of Geology asked
him to slow down and get the rest. He was back in the hospital in February
1, 1982, before passing away in April 25,1982.
Professor W.F. Beeser worked with the Department of Geology, Faculty
of Science, for 22 years. All the 22 classes of the geological undergraduates
from Chulalongkorn University were taught by him all.
