The Shkabara Family 1996
Its that time of year again - time for another Trip Story. For a second year, however, there is no trip to report! This must be some sort of record, since brother George Liban keeps expecting to make a new entry in his address book.
No trip, but there are changes. We had not moved so much only to have Peter end up with a 40 hour a week job. He wanted to teach and that was still the goal. After two years, the teaching position in Computer Science that he had been denied originally came up again. The instructor that had been hired did not work out. Peter applied again but again he was turned down in favor of another candidate who had no better qualifications.
Seeing the pattern, and not being given a satisfactory answer for the rejection, Peter applied for teaching position in Astoria, OR. An invitation for an interview came with indication that he was a strong candidate. However, just before the invite, Peter was approved for a one-year transfer to a teaching position. A computer drafting instructor had obtained a one-year leave of absence and a replacement was needed.
Although the current teaching assignment is only temporary, the regular instructor had accepted a new job elsewhere and there is a good probability that the teaching job for Peter will become permanent. At long last we may have a permanent home.
Alexis continues to be a straight A student as she navigates the eighth grade. She is having a bit of an identity crisis of sorts. She has decided that she no longer wants to be know as Sasha, and insists on being called Alexa instead.
During the summer, there was a quick trip to Morro Bay, California to visit with Katja, Marina, and Ina. It was nice to see the ocean again, but the mornings were quite cool with the coastal summer fog setting in each night.
This installment is shorter than previous issues since there was no move, and some of the news events are now being covered by Sashas - oops, Alexas pet news stories.
