Manufacturing strategy

The aim of this subject was to provide an understanding of the principles and application of a manufacturing strategy.

Some of the contents were:

  1. Fundamentals of manufacturing strategy
  2. Classification of processes and strategies
  3. Just in time / KANBAN
  4. Analysing, developing a manufacturing strategy (Assignment)

The task of the assignment was :
1. Assignment (50%) - "Identify the manufacturing strategy of a company of your choice by plotting the manufacturing system changes (structure and infrastructure) that have occurred over recent years. Having established the company's manufacturing strategy, you are then required to attempt to specify the manufacturing objectives that the company followed during this time. These are the objectives that the company wanted to realise, which may be different to the objectives their strategy seemed to follow."

2. Assignment (50%) - "The second assignment is based on the first one.
First you are required to make some assessment about the congruence between the strategy the company seemed to follow, relative to the objectives it sought.
Then you are asked to propose a future strategy for the company. Based on the objectives the company is pursuing, what manufacturing system developments would you propose?"

For this assignments I chose Toyota's history between 1950-1980.

I paid not so much attention to the format of the assignment while transferring it into HTML .
